Plan Limits
This page explains how usage limits work in LOP, what happens when you reach them, and how your data is protected.
What Counts Toward Your Limits
Limits apply to two main resources depending on your plan:
Plans Per Month (Free and Professional tiers)
A "plan" counts toward your monthly limit whenever you create a new load plan. This includes:
- Plans created manually via "New Plan"
- Plans created by applying a template
- Plans duplicated from an existing plan
It does not include:
- Viewing existing plans
- Editing or re-optimizing existing plans
- Exporting plans
- Plans that are deleted (the count is not refunded when a plan is deleted)
The counter resets on the first day of each calendar month.
Items Per Plan (Free tier only)
On the Free tier, each plan is limited to 20 items. This limit applies to the number of distinct item records in the plan, not the total quantity. For example, 5 types of boxes with a quantity of 10 each = 5 items, which is within the 20-item limit.
What Happens When You Hit a Limit
Plan limit reached
When you attempt to create a new plan after reaching your monthly limit, LOP shows an upgrade prompt instead of creating the plan. The prompt explains your current plan's limit and shows the next tier with its pricing.
You can:
- Upgrade immediately — the new plan is created right after payment
- Wait until next month — the counter resets on the 1st and you can create plans again
- Close the prompt — no action taken, your existing plans are unaffected
Reaching the plan limit does not affect any of your existing plans. You can still open, edit, re-optimize, and export any plan you have already created.
Item limit reached (Free tier)
When you attempt to add more than 20 items to a plan on the Free tier, LOP shows an upgrade prompt. You can:
- Remove items already in the plan to stay within the 20-item limit
- Upgrade to Professional for unlimited items
Upgrade Prompts
The upgrade prompt appears inline — it does not interrupt your session or block access to other parts of the application. It shows:
- Your current plan and usage (e.g., "3 of 3 plans used this month")
- The next tier's pricing and key benefits
- A direct link to the Pricing page for full comparison
- An "Upgrade Now" button to complete the payment flow immediately
Upgrade prompts are also shown in Settings → Billing where you can see your current usage at any time.
Viewing Your Current Usage
To check how many plans you have used this month:
- Go to Settings → Billing
- The Current Usage section shows:
- Plans created this month vs your monthly limit
- Billing period start and end dates
- Days remaining until the counter resets
You can also see the current count in the Load Plans page header: "X of Y plans used this month".
Data Safety at All Limits
LOP never deletes your data when you reach a limit:
- Existing plans are never deleted when you hit the plan limit. You retain full access to read, edit, optimize, and export all plans you have already created
- Item library is unaffected — there is no limit on items in your library
- Exports always work — you can export any plan you have access to, regardless of whether you are at your limit
- Collaborators still have access — hitting a limit on your account does not affect other team members' existing work
The only thing that stops when you hit a limit is the creation of new resources beyond the threshold.
Limits and Billing Period
Usage counters are tied to your billing period, not the calendar month. If your subscription started on the 15th, your billing period runs from the 15th to the 14th of the next month. The plan counter resets on the 15th each month.
For the Free tier, the billing period is always the calendar month (1st to last day).
If you upgrade mid-month, your plan counter does not reset immediately. The counter resets on your next billing period start date, or you can contact support if you need an immediate counter reset after upgrading.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does deleting a plan give me back a credit? No. The plan counter tracks creation, not current count. Deleting a plan does not reduce the usage counter.
Can I carry over unused plans to the next month? No. The counter resets to zero at the start of each billing period regardless of how many plans you created.
What if I duplicate a plan — does that count? Yes, duplicating creates a new plan and counts as one plan toward your monthly limit.
Can I request a limit increase without upgrading? No. Limits are tied to subscription tiers. Upgrading is the only way to increase plan or item limits.
